The "Blue Whale" 2010, a NATO naval military exercise, has started Monday in the Mediterranean, Turkish military said.
In a statement posted on its internet site on Monday, Turkish military said that the exercise, which is hosted by Turkey, will continue in the East Mediterranean until November 11.
Submarines, frigates and naval air elements are participating in the exercise which includes submarine-warfare maneuvers, the military said.
Turkey takes part in the exercise with three frigates, two corvettes, five submarines, a fuel vessel, a maritime patrol aircraft, three helicopters and Air Force elements. The exercise involves vessels from Standing NATO Response Force (NRF) Maritime Group 2 members Turkey, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Greece.
