Turkish Cyprus announces population as 294,906
According to Kucuk, the TRNC's population has increased 11.2 percent since the population census of April 30, 2006 and reached 294,906.

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) officials announced preliminary results of December 4's population census on Friday and said the country's population is 294,906.

TRNC Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk made public the preliminary results of the population census on Friday.

According to Kucuk, the TRNC's population has increased 11.2 percent since the population census of April 30, 2006 and reached 294,906.

The preliminary results indicate that the TRNC capital Lefkosa had 98,739 residents, Gazimagusa 69,273 residents, Girne 72,284 residents, Guzelyurt 31,254 residents and Iskele 23,356 residents.

The population census on December 4 was observed by 7 United Nations experts.
