Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Friday issues Turkey's deployment of troops, armored vehicles and missiles along the Syrian border, Thursday's meeting of the National Security Council and independent deputy Leyla Zana's meeting to be held with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday.
Commenting on the tension between Turkey and Syria following Syria's downing of a Turkish military jet on June 22, almost all dailies mentioned that Turkey was deploying great numbers of troops, armored vehicles and missiles along the Syrian border. Hurriyet daily said that Turkey deployed Stinger missiles along its border with Syria. The Stinger missiles have a range of five kilometers and are used against jets and helicopters.
Dailies highlighted the meeting of the Turkish National Security Council (MGK) on Thursday. MGK members discussed the unarmed Turkish military plane which was downed by Syria in international air space on June 22. Turkey will act with determination against this violent act by reserving all rights under international law, said a statement released after MGK's regular June meeting on Thursday. MGK members also discussed the recent developments in Syria, and expressed necessity that the bloodshed in Syria must be stopped immediately and a democratic path should be opened under people's legitimate demands.
Dailies also drew attention to a meeting to be held between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and an independent deputy from the south-eastern province of Diyarbakir, Leyla Zana, on Saturday. Zana recently said that she believed Erdogan would be able to solve the Kurdish issue. "I have not lost hope or faith on this issue," Zana stated.
