Thousands of Palestinians performed the first Friday's prayers of the holy month of Ramadan at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem amid tight security measures by Israeli forces.

Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), a Palestinian deputy Khalid Al-Huseini said that he could not visit the Al-Aqsa Mosque since 2006.

"Israeli authorities have banned our entries into the Al-Aqsa Mosque," Al-Huseini stressed.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque is one of the holiest and most sacred locations of the Muslims, was the destination of Prophet Muhammad in his journey and was the Muslims' first Qibla.
