Massoud Barzani, the president of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq, has stated that if the Iraqi government does not answer their demands, the KRG will seek independence.

Warning the Iraqi government on Sunday, Barzani said the KRG will not let the Kurdish region become miserable and wretched like the rest of the country. “We have witnessed the use of tanks and other heavy armor against our nation,” Barzani said.

“This is a wrong approach and the main cause of pain and grief Iraq has lived through thus far. There is still hope that the Iraqi government will settle the issue.”
