The Hakkari Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on Thursday began an investigation into an assault on Interior Minister İdris Naim Şahin.
Supporters of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) reportedly attacked Şahin, who had gone to the southeastern city of Hakkari on the eve of Eid al-Fitr.
A group threw stones at the interior minister as he was touring and speaking with local shopkeepers.
If the Hakkari Chief Public Prosecutor's Office finds concrete evidence linking the attack to the PKK, the case file will be forwarded to the Van Public Prosecutor's Office, which oversees terrorism-related cases.
