Iran has summoned Pakistan’s ambassador to Tehran over his country's alleged failure to take action to secure the countries’ mutual border and prevent "terrorists" from entering the Islamic Republic, according to Iranian official news agency IRNA.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry's Western Asia director, Rasul Salami, told Pakistan’s Ambassador Noor Muhammad Jadmani during the meeting on Sunday: "Pakistan must take the necessary measures on our countries’ mutual border against terrorist attacks against on border units."
The official summons comes a week after four members of the Iranian security forces were killed by unknown attackers in Saravan County in the eastern Iranian province of Sistan and Balochistan which borders Pakistan.
"The terrorists’ attacks and killing of Iranian security forces by those crossing the Pakistani border to Iran is unacceptable," Salami added.
Iran accuses Pakistan of implementing lax measures on border security and has said terrorist groups have been using Pakistan's border as a platform to launch offensives against the Islamic Republic.
Pakistan and Iran signed an agreement on border security management in February 2013 to boost cooperation to overcome terrorism, human trafficking and counterfeit currency.
