Mosul Governor Asil Nujaifi has called on Kurdish Peshmerga forces, as Iraqi forces prepare Mosul campaign to save major Iraqi city from ISIL

World Bulletin / News Desk

Mosul Governor Asil Nujaifi has called on Kurdish Peshmerga forces to join a military operation by Iraq army to retake Mosul, Iraq's second city under the control of ISIL armed group since June last year.

Governor Nujaifi and Masrour Barzani, the head of the intelligence service of the Kurdish Regional Government, or KRG, discussed on Saturday in Erbil how to retake Mosul from ISIL, according to KRG intelligence agency.

Nujaifi reportedly underlined that Peshmerga need to participate in the Mosul operation. "The people of Mosul trust Peshmerga. The Kurdish fighters’ high morality and decent treatment (of locals) gave great hope to Mosul citizens.

"The people of Mosul believe that they will be safe after the city will be retaken."

The battle is seen as a critical test for Iraqi ground forces to seal off militants from their strongholds in northern Iraq.
