Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay and Rwanda's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation Louise Mushikiwabo on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at the signature ceremony in Rwanda's capital of Kigali, Atalay said that he was pleased to sign such a document on Monday, one that would enhance bilateral relations.
I am very happy to know that I will have a share in developing relations between Turkey and Rwanda, Atalay stressed.
I held a very fruitful meeting with Mushikiwabo on the future of Turkey-Rwanda relations. Rwanda had taken a decision to open an embassy in Ankara. Following our current visit, Turkey will open an embassy in Kigali. My hope is that our two countries open their embassies very soon, Atalay underlined.
Minister Mushikiwabo, in her part, said that Rwanda established friendly relations with many countries and Turkey was at the forefront of such countries.
We watch with appreciation Turkey's efforts for global peace and friendship, Mushikiwabo stressed.
I would like to thank Turkey again for helping rescue Rwandan citizens during the Libyan crisis, Mushikiwabo noted.
During the Libyan crisis, I left Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu sleepless for several nights. Please convey my deepest regards to Mr. Davutoglu, Mushikiwabo said.
We have taken a decision to open an embassy in Ankara. We expect Turkey to open an embassy in Kigali. I hope that our relations will develop with a fast pace, Mushikiwabo stated.
The memorandum of understanding signed by Atalay and Mushikiwabo involves cooperation in the fields of counter-terrorism, cross-border crimes, commerce, investments, health, agriculture, mining, culture, tourism and education.
Atalay had a lunch with Minister Mushikiwabo. He later met the Rwandan Prime Minister Pierre Damien Habumuremyi.
