Former Syrian Prime Minister Riyad Hijab appeared for the first time since his defection from President Bashar al-Assad's regime on Wednesday, in a video accompanied allegedly by members of the Free Syrian Army.
In the video, which Al Arabiya said was filmed in Al-Ni'aimah town in Deraa city near the Jordanian border, Hijab is seated against a wall in a room with children and several men, who the FSA claimed were its fighters, guarding him before his departure to Jordan after his defection from the Syrian regime.
Hijab and two other ministers became the latest to abandon Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday.
"I announce today my defection from the killing and terrorist regime and I announce that I have joined the ranks of the freedom and dignity revolution," Hijab said in a statement read by a spokesman on Al Jazeera television on Monday. He declared himself "a soldier in this blessed revolution".
"UNMISS strongly condemns the targeted killing of civilians based on their ethnic origins and nationality in Bentiu," the U.N. mission said in a statement.
King Abdullah II and Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu met in the Jordan capital Amman.
