Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, said Friday the Alliance of Civilizations initiative brought together cultures and is unstoppable.

In a message sent to a ceremony at the Istanbul University (IU) in which Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree for their contributions to the Alliance of Civilizations initiative, Zapatero said that he accepts the honorary degree with great honor and that such a degree carries high importance.

We began the Alliance of Civilizations initiative with Mr. Erdogan. We are trying to develop this initiative, Zapatero said in his brief message.

The Alliance of Civilizations initiative is one formed under the roof of the United Nations and tries to bring together different cultures and religions by promoting dialogue.

Erdogan and Zapatero are the co-sponsors of the initiative.
