Fourteen people who were hospitalized after a prison fire in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa were discharged from hospital on Monday.

Governor Celalettin Guvenc said everything was under control at prison, and 14 injured people were discharged from hospital.

"42 people including police officers, soldiers, wardens and inmates were injured in the prison fire," Guvenc told reporters.

Fire broke out at the same prison early on Sunday, killing 13 and wounding five others. The fire broke out due to a row among the inmates, and it spread as inmates did not allow wardens to open doors.

On Saturday night, prisoners had set fire to their bedding in a dispute linked to poor conditions at the jail, leading to the deaths of 13 people.

Turkish media reported that inmates had started the fire to protest the deaths of their fellow prisoners and overcrowding at the prison.

Anti-government chants rang out from within the prison, where more than a 1,000 inmates were held in a jail with capacity for around 300 people.

Outside the prison, riot police fired tear gas and water cannon to quell an angry crowd of inmates' relatives.

Guvenc said they were aware of prison conditions, and the Justice Ministry was working to rehabilitate those conditions.

"We are investigating the cause of incidents," Guvenc also said.
