Maliki tells Turkey, ashamed PKK using Iraqi soil
A senior Turkish diplomat met Tuesday with Iraqi president, prime minister and head of the regional administration in Iraq's north.

Turkey's Special Envoy to Iraq Murat Ozcelik met Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Iraqi Premier Nouri Al-Maliki and Massoud Barzani separately in Baghdad.

"We are ashamed that the PKK is using the Iraqi soil. This menace has to be eradicated and what needs to be has to be done to that end," Maliki was cited as saying during the meeting.

After his meeting with Barzani, Ozcelik said he conveyed to the Iraqi side possible security measures, qualifying his talks as "positive" without elaborating.

Seventeen Turkish troops were killed in a PKK attack on an outpost on Turkey's border with Iraq and five policemen were killed in another attack just days apart earlier in October.

PKK uses Iraq's north as a springboard to launch attacks on Turkish military and civilian targets.
