The Taliban denied on Sunday they had the bodies of two drowned U.S. soldiers who had gone missing last week in northwestern Afghanistan.

NATO forces killed seven Afghan soldiers and police in an air strike while searching for two missing American soldiers in Afghanistan, the Afghan Defence Ministry said on Saturday.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told Reuters by telephone the group had not retrieved the bodies of soldiers whom they say drowned in Badghis. Provincial officials also believe the missing Americans have drowned.

The Afghan government struck a ceasefire deal with Taliban insurgents in Badghis in July.
