Pakistan's Taliban denied involvement in targeting civilians and has blamed US hands for some blasts.

Tehreek e-Taliban issued its first video statement over the recent attacks blamed on the group across Pakistani towns and cities.

Azam Tariq, a spokesman of the Tehreek e-Taliban, posted the video statement on YouTube on Monday, referring to a bombing at the Islamic University in Islamabad.

The spokesman said was orchestrated to prepare the ground for a military operation in South Waziristan, a stronghold for Pakistan's Taliban fighters.

He also said his group had no role in the bomb blast in a Peshawar market that killed at least 100 people as well as an attack in Charsada, a town located in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province.

"I want to make it clear to the Muslim world, especially Pakistan, that the bomb blasts targeting civilians are not the work of the mujahedeen," Tariq said. "Instead, it is the work of Pakistan's sinister secret organizations and Blackwater."

The spoksman also defended some blasts, saying "these are religiously legitimate targets."

"The targets of the Tehrik-i-Taliban have always been clear: those state organizations who at the behest of the Americans target the Tehrik-i-Taliban and have the blood of our martyrs on their hands."

However, American security company formerly known as Blackwater, now Xe Services LLC, denied having any contracts in Pakistan.

Iraq government banned it in January over the 2007 killings of 17 Iraqi civilians.
