A TURKISH PARLIAMENTARIAN TO HEAD PACE FOR THE FIRST TIME
A Turkish parliamentarian will become chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) after 60 years. Mevlut Cavusoglu of the Justice & Development (AK) Party will head the PACE in the 2010-2011 period.

"COUNCIL OF STATE'S DECISION IS IDEOLOGICAL"
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip said that the Council of State's decision to cancel the coefficient system in university exam was totally ideological. "It is hard to understand such a ruling," he said. Referring to civil servants' one-day strike, Erdogan said, "we cannot allow anyone to violate the laws. Those who violate the laws must account for their actions."

BUSINESSMEN IN EASTERN TURKEY
Nearly 1,500 businessmen celebrated their religious holiday in eastern and southeastern parts of Turkey. They distributed foodstuff to 20 thousand families only in Diyarbakir as a holiday gift.

FOUR IMPORTANT MESSAGES FROM EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
There were four important messages in European Parliament's draft report about Turkey. The European Parliament said that the Ergenekon probe was a significant opportunity for democracy. Noting that relations between the press and the business world were not healthy at all, the European Parliament warned that the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors needed a reform to be more objective. The European Parliament also added that the PKK terrorist organization must lay down its arms.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip reacted to the ruling of the Council of State cancelling the coefficient system in university exam. "This ruling is totally ideological. And it is hard to understand such a ruling. It is unacceptable. We will assess what to be done following the religious holiday," he said.

ERGENEKON IN ERZINCAN
Director of the intelligence department of the Provincial Gendarmerie Command in the northern province of Erzincan was detained under the Ergenekon probe. An authorized prosecutor was sent to the province to interrogate the major. Earlier, deputy director of the intelligence department was also detained. We was sent to prison after being questioned.

"WE ARE GOING TO PAY SOME 1 MILLION TL TO U2"
State Minister Hayati Yazici said that prominent Irish rock band U2 would give a concert in Istanbul under activities of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture". "You know U2 do not give concerts in countries in which human rights are violated. Earlier, they rejected to give concert in Turkey. Now, they are coming to Istanbul. This is an important development. We will pay some 1 million TL to them," he said.

"TRUTH WILL COME OUT SOONER OR LATER"
The General Staff said that 29 officers had given testimonies so far and most of them were released as part of an investigation into what was known as "Cage Action Plan". "The Turkish Armed Forces, on numerous cases, said that it respected the supremacy of law and the jurisdiction. It is against the universal principles of law to declare a person as guilty before being tried. Now, members of a mentality which postulates all claims, have been trying to intervene in jurisdiction. We believe that truth will come out sooner of later," the General Staff added.

"DECISION IS IDEOLOGICAL"
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan reacted to Council of State ruling that cancelled a decision made by the Higher Board of Education granting a privilege for religious high schools (imam-hatips).
Erdogan said the court ruling was unacceptable and "totally ideological."
"It shows how the Council of State faced a dilemma. We are having difficulty to understand. Higher Board of Education will object to the ruling. Government will also work about what to bo done," he said.

ERDOGAN CONFUSES AGAIN
Remarks made by officials of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party caused a decreasing interest in swine flu vaccination while death toll rises every day.
Health Minister Recep Akdag said the only way of protection was vaccination, adding, "any remarks that could confuse people would increase death toll."
However, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who asked media to take the swine flu off the agenda, reiterated that officials can not force any one to get vaccinated.
He once again said that "none of the family members have been vaccinated."

TWO COLONELS AND AND A LT. COLONEL ARRESTED
Three high-ranking officers, colonels Mucahit Erakyol and Levent Gulmen as well as lieutenant colonel Halil Ozsaral, were arrested in a probe regarding the "Cage Action Plan" which was about assassination and bombing plans against Armenian community in Turkey. The number of arrested military staff has risen to 11.
General Staff released a statement and reacted to media reports about the "cage plan".
"The mentality to postulate all claims is in efforts to create an effect on judiciary," the General Staff said.

COURT RULING: BANK IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ONLINE ROBBERY
Hackers drew 520,000 liras from a businessman's bank account, however, bank has not take the responsibility, arguing that his computer did not have security software. A court ruled that the bank was responsible for online robbery and ordered the bank to pay his money including interest. The amount of money the businessman will charge from the bank is over 1 million now.

DEEP MEHMET OF DEEP STATE
Turkey spelled his name during Susurluk case. Deep state gave a passport bearing his name to Abdullah Catli. Catli accomplished overseas missions using that passport. But who was that deep Mehmet of the deep state?
He comes to United States and tries every kind of business from meat import to iron trade. He involves in arranged marriages. He becomes both American citizen and British citizen in 1994. He disappears for a long time after the Susurluk accident. He shows his face in Istanbul's Bahcesehir in 2000. Then he settles in New York, and then moves to Atlanta. Finally, he moves to a small secluded town in the south of United States.
Today, Ozbay is a partner of a group of companies with an annual turnover of 20 million USD. He has two illegitimate children. He has been in jail for a while five months ago after an incident caused by one of his girlfriends because of jealousy. He is known as Mehmet Ozbay at work, but he becomes Michael Bay in the jail. He still conceals himself and he still does not talk to anybody.

REACTION TO DEAN AT FACULTY
Last month, an election was held at the Faculty of Dentistry of Ege University in Izmir. Former dean of the faculty won 60 votes out of 85 cast by academicians of the faculty. However, Higher Board of Education appointed Professor Celal Artunc as new dean of the faculty although he won only 9 votes. Academicians reacted to this appointment and head doctor, faculty board and all, except one, heads of department resigned.

THREE OFFICERS ARRESTED
Two colonels and a lieutenant colonel were arrested as part of an investigation into ammunitions found in Istanbul's Poyrazkoy district and alleged plans to assassinate members of minorities to lead to a chaos in the country under the Ergenekon probe. The officers were earlier detained and released after being questioned. They were re-arrested upon objections by prosecutors carrying out the Ergenekon probe.

ILLEGAL RESTORATION
A five-member scientific council established by the Ministry of Culture & Tourism to investigate the restoration scandal in the worldwide famous Sumela Monastery in northern Turkey, released its report, "it is not restoration, but construction. They added a story to the historical building illegally." Under the report, 73 percent of the restoration works by six different firms which lasted for 16 years will be renewed.
