Turkish relief group said is sending teams in the United States to quake-hit Haiti that tens of thousands of people were feared dead and many were believed to be still trapped alive in the rubble of the major quake.

IHH, Humanitarian Relief Foundation, said in a statement sent to World Bulletin, "After the Turkish Red Crescent, to wrap the wounds in Haiti, IHH has sent its teams in the United States, closest to the region. Being on their way to Haiti, the IHH teams will deliver emergency relief supplies to earthquake victims in the first stage."

IHH is known as the first Turkish charity to carry out aid activities during Ramadan and Eid al-Adha in Haiti.

Meanwhile, Islamic Relief USA, America's largest Muslim relief organization, announced that it will immediately fly a $1 million shipment of aid to Haiti.

The relief group said in a statement, "that relief aid will be sent in coordination with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."

Islamic Relief USA is a non-profit humanitarian agency with offices also in California, Illinois, New Jersey, and Texas. Since its establishment, Islamic Relief has expanded greatly with permanent locations in more than 35 countries worldwide.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, and is also one of the most densely populated and least developed. Nearly 80 percent of Haiti's 9 million people live in poverty.
