Japanese and Korean tourists boost tourism in Cappadocia region which is one of the most important tourism centers of Turkey.

The region, famous for its fairy chimneys and underground cities, experienced a stagnant period in June till mid July.

However, the tourism agencies in Cappadocia relieved after Japanese and Korean tourists rushed to the region, where approximately 2 million tourists visit every year.
The Japanese and Korean tourists mostly visit Goreme National Park and Goreme Open Air Museum in the region.

Cappadocia which is unique in the world and is a miraculous nature wonder with its famous "fairy chimneys," is the common name of the field covered by the provinces of Aksaray, Nevsehir, Nigde, Kayseri and Kirsehir in the central Anatolian region.

The region is largely underlain by sedimentary rocks formed in lakes and streams, and ignimbrite deposits erupted from ancient volcanos millions of years ago.

Cappadocia contains several underground cities, largely used by early Christians as hiding places before Christianity became an accepted religion.
