Turkish Airlines (THY) Director General Temel Kotil attended the 67th Meeting of Agean Young Businessmen Association (EGIAD) on Thursday.
The director general made a presentation about THY's performance and targets during the meeting, saying Turkey has made legendary progress in aviation and number of THY's passengers has reached 114 million from 29 million.
Noting Turkey has become a main player in aviation and THY targets 120 million passengers by 2030, Kotil also said Turkish Airlines surpassed Air France and was in an effective position together with Germany in Europe.
Kotil also said Turkish Airlines carried 1.6 percent of the passengers in the world.
THY expanded by 35 percent between 2005-2012, said Kotil, adding it holds 1,000 flights a day with its 199 destinations abroad.
The director general also added THY has the fourth greatest flight network of the world and is the greatest player in aviation in Africa.
Also touching on Izmir's EXPO 2020 candidacy, he said there had been favorable efforts about the nomination and he believed Izmir would be selected during the voting to be held on November 27, 2013.
