Armed conflict between security forces and Taliban militants killed 19 people in Afghanistan's Badakhshan province on Thursday.
Two soldiers and 17 militants were killed, while 10 others were wounded from both sides.
The conflict began after militants attacked security patrol forces and lasted several hours, Badakhshan Governorship spokesman Ahmad Nawid Furuten told Anadolu Agency.
Other militants escaped and a wide-scale operation has been launched, he added.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said four security force members died and more were wounded in the conflict.
Mujahid asserted that the Taliban had seized control of some villages in Corm district.
