Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday called for finding political settlements to ongoing conflicts in Yemen, Iraq and Syria, according to a statement issued by Egypt's presidency.
Al-Sisi discussed recent events in these countries at a meeting in Cairo with U.S. Central Command chief Gen. Lloyd Austin, the statement added.
Austin, for his part, the statement noted, lauded Egypt's recent economic and political "successes".
The U.S. general said Washington continued to view Egypt as a principal partner with whom it sought to improve relations.
Earlier in the day, Austin met with Egyptian Defense Minister Sedki Sobhi, according to the Egyptian presidency.
The meeting, it added, had tackled issues of mutual concern, joint training exercises and military cooperation.
