At least ten people were killed and 12 others injured when they were attacked by armed men wielding machetes in the town of Ndalya between the Democratic Republic of Congo (D.R.C.)'s North Kivu region and the country's eastern region.
Armed men attacked the town late Thursday, breaking into homes and killing residents with machetes, Antibo Akaume, a local chief, said.
Some survivors managed to identify the assailants, saying they were affiliated with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a Ugandan rebel group that maintains a presence in the eastern part of the D.R.C.
People injured in Thursday's attack included a one-month-old baby.
The ADF had also recently targeted Beni, another town in the North Kivu region.
In recent months, the rebels have stepped up their attacks in the region, killing and injuring scores of people.
Local residents have urged the authorities to take action to stop the rebel attacks.
