Two Somali lawmakers on Saturday survived an assassination attempt by gunmen who opened fire on them in central Somali capital Mogadishu, eyewitnesses have said.

They said the gunmen stopped the car of lawmakers, Abdullah Boss, and Youssef Ahmed Drar, and opened fire on it, leaving Youssef injured along with three bodyguards.

The attackers fled the scene immediately after they were met with resistance from some of the guards of the lawmakers, the eyewitnesses told Anadolu Agency.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack yet.

This is the second armed attack to take place in the Somali capital on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, two people, including a civil servant, were killed in Mogadishu.

The Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab armed group claimed responsibility for the attack.
