Around 500 Muslims of Malian origin living in the Central African Republic are joining the hundreds of thousands of people in the country who have been forced to flee their homes due to inter-religious fighting.

One Malian called Mbou, told France 24 that all Muslims in the country were under attack, claiming that the Senegalese, Chadians, Cameroonians and Nigerians living in the country have already left.

The UN has said that 370,000 people have fled the capital Bangui alone, with a 70% increase in refugees since France launched a campaign in the country in December to oust Muslim Selekas who have been in power since March. Overall, around 935,000 people have been displaced - almost a fifth of the nation’s population.

Muslims living in the country have accused the French of bias, helping anti-balaka Christian militias against them.
