Jordan's ambassador, who has been abducted in Libya, will be released within hours, Jordanian diplomatic sources said on Tuesday.
"[The release] has been secured by efforts of the Jordanian and Libyan governments," a diplomatic source told Anadolu Agency.
Ambassador Fawaz al-Aitan and two companions were kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Libyan capital Tripoli on Tuesday.
The diplomat's driver was also injured during the kidnapping, Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sabah al-Rafei told AA.
According to eyewitnesses, al-Aitan's car was intercepted in the Mansoura district by four masked gunmen who abducted him and shot his driver.
Following the diplomat's abduction, a high-level Jordanian delegation arrived in Tripoli "to work with the Libyans to secure the diplomat's release," the diplomatic source said.
The source, however, declined to identify the captors of the diplomat.
There was no comment from the Jordanian or Libyan government.Last Mod: 16 Nisan 2014, 10:13
