Malagasy President Hery Rajaonarimampianina has named air commodore Jean Ravelonarivo as prime minister, two days after the resignation of Roger Kolo from the post.
"In accordance with the constitution, air commodore Jean Ravelonarivo was appointed as prime minister," presidential spokesman Roger Ralala said in a statement late Wednesday.
"Members of the outgoing government would ensure that the affairs of the country go smoothly until the new government is formed," he added, giving no further information on when the new government should be unveiled.
Ravelonarivo, a business leader in the real estate sector, has been appointed as air commodore last month. His wife, Josiane Ravelonarivo, is said to be a close associate of the country's First Lady, Voahangy Rajaonarimampianina.
On Monday, Kolo has submitted his government's resignation, prompting the first change of government in Rajaonarimampianina era.
The Malagasy leader was elected to lead the country in December of 2013 after five years of political unrest.
According to a source close to the outgoing premier, the announcement came to brought to an end differences between Kolo and the president's team.
