Algerian authorities on Saturday beefed up security around foreign petroleum companies in six provinces, deploying 3,000 security personnel and army troops for this purpose.
The decision to reinforce security around the foreign petroleum companies comes a few days only after a group affiliated with the militant organization ISIL had kidnapped and then killed a French tourist in Algeria.
In killing the French tourist, the militant group was reacting to an invitation by ISIL, which had overrun vast territories in both Iraq and Syria, for like-minded militant groups to target the citizens of countries participating in an international alliance against it.
The United States has been forming an alliance of several western and Arab countries against ISIL.
French military planes have already started striking ISIL targets.Last Mod: 27 Eylül 2014, 17:33
