South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), has called for the participation of white youth in all of the country’s patriotic and activist youth events.
According to Beeld, ANC MP Judy Tshabalala called for the participation of white youth at the annual parliamentary debate on Youth Day in the country.
"We ask for the white youth's inclusion in all patriotic and activist youth events,” said Tshabalala.
Youth Day is celebrated on the 16th of June in South Africa and commemorates the start of the Soweto riots in 1976, sparked by the apartheid regime instructing that all black schools will have instructions in Afrikaans.
"We did not save the youth from the shackles of apartheid only to allow ourselves to be fenced off in groups," Beeld reported Tshabalala as saying.
"We are diverse, but we are all Africans, and we need to destroy the idea that we have different statuses."
