At least 19 people were killed when a passenger plane carrying 22 people crashed in South Sudan, a local official said on Sunday.

Taban Abel Aguek, state information minister, said that at least 19 people died when the plane crashed into a river during the landing.

Aguek said three passengers, including one child and a co-pilot, have been rescued.

The dead bodies in the lake have been taken out, he added.

The plane was travelling from the capital Juba to Yirol.
