At least nine people were killed and several wounded in Mogadishu on Saturday when a bomb exploded on a busy street in the Somali capital, a police official and witnesses said.
A Reuters witness saw the wrecked government car and five wounded people lying on the street. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
An explosive device planted in the car of a former municipal official went off near the busy KM4 junction in central Mogadishu, the source told Anadolu Agency.
The municipal official was killed in the blast.
There was no claim of responsibility for the attack and Somali authorities have yet to comment.
Somalia has remained in the grip of on-again, off-again violence since the outbreak of civil war in 1991.
