Senior Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Ali Beshr was banned by authorities from travelling to the United Arab Emirates, a security source told Anadolu Agency on Thursday.
Beshr, who had served as local government minister under ousted president Mohamed Morsi, had been stopped from boarding his plane for a scheduled flight out of Cairo International Airport, the source said.
An engineering professor, Beshr had been slated to fly to Dubai to join a panel of judges for an international contest.
It was not immediately clear why Beshr was banned from leaving the country. He was, however, allowed to leave the airport freely.
Beshr, associated with the Brotherhood's "reformist" wing, has been leading negotiations with Egypt's army-backed interim authorities and foreign delegations in hopes of resolving the political crisis triggered by Morsi's July 3 ouster by the military.Last Mod: 19 Eylül 2013, 16:45
