Two Egyptian army officers and a conscript were killed on Saturday when an underground tunnel on Egypt's border with the Gaza Strip collapsed, the army said.
Army spokesman Mohamed Samir said on his Facebook page that a second conscript was injured in the tunnel collapse and that he was taken to hospital for treatment.
The Egyptian army has been cracking down on smuggling tunnels on the border with the Gaza Strip, which has been suffering a seven-year all-out Israeli blockade.
The crackdown led to the destruction of a large number of tunnels, according to the Egyptian army.
