Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood movement on Saturday named one of its members as its new spokesman, the first since the ouster of elected President Mohamed Morsi in July of 2013.

The movement identified the new spokesman as Mohamed Montasser.

It said in a statement on its website that the new spokesman would be responsible for expressing the point of view of the movement regarding all issues.

The Muslim Brotherhood's former spokesman, Mahmoud Ghozlan, had disappeared soon after Egyptian police evicted Morsi-backing protest camps in Cairo and Giza in August of 2013.

Two other spokesmen, namely Jehad al-Haddad and Mohamed Aref were arrested by Egyptian police and accused of joining an outlawed movement.

The Muslim Brotherhood was designated as a "terrorist organization" by the Egyptian government in December of 2013.
