The 50-member committee entrusted with preparing a new constitution would conclude its work by December 3, its spokesman confirmed on Monday.
A constitution declaration issued by interim President Adly Mansour had given the committee 60 days from the start of its work on September 8 to conclude its mission.
But Mohamed Salmawi, the committee's spokesman, told a press conference today that they have decided to count the 60 days as actual "working days" not 60 consecutive days.
He denied reports that the committee had asked for an extension.
"This is baseless. We are determined to finish on time," Salmawi asserted.
He said committee members will be holding three meetings a day as of Tuesday and until they conclude their work.
Amendment of the constitution is a main component of a transitional roadmap imposed by the powerful military establishment after its July 3 ouster of elected President Mohamed Morsi.Last Mod: 22 Ekim 2013, 00:11
