Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi will visit Ethiopia at an invitation from Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn, a diplomatic source said on Thursday.
"The visit, which will be Sisi's first to Addis Ababa, the seat of the African Union, will help improve the existing relation between Ethiopia and Egypt," the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Anadolu Agency.
The date of the visit is yet to be disclosed.
Hailemariam and Sisi are expected to meet in New York later this month before the Egyptian leader's visit to Ethiopia.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is currently visiting Ethiopia, carrying a message from Sisi to Desalegn.
Desalegn and al-Sisi met on the sidelines of the 23rd African Union Summit – held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea in June.
In recent years, Egypt-Ethiopia ties have been strained by the latter's construction of a major hydroelectric dam on the upper reaches of the Nile River – Egypt's primary water source.
Ethiopia insists the project won't impact Egypt's traditional share of Nile water, which has long been determined by a colonial-era water-sharing treaty that Addis Ababa has never recognized.Last Mod: 05 Eylül 2014, 09:27
