French, British leaders address small crowd in Libya's Benghazi

Libyans showed little interest in a joint public appearance Thursday by French President Nicolas Sarkozy and British Prime Minister David Cameron at Benghazi's Tahrir Square during their visit to congratulate the new rulers of the oil-rich North African country who they helped oust the Gadhafi regime.

Amid very tight security measures, the two leaders showed up alongside Libya's Transitional National Council chairman, Mustafa Abdul Jalil, and addressed just a small crowd of over a hundred of Libyans who came only after a public announcement was made for them to gather at the square.

Sarkozy and Cameron were greeted with placards that read "Merci Sarkozy, Thanks Cameron," and they briefly expressed their support for the Libyan revolution and the transitional council.
