Kenyan army kills '34 al-Shabab militants' in Somalia

Thirty-four suspected al-Shabab militants were killed in separate gunfights with Kenyan military in Somalia’s Lower Juba Region Sunday, a Kenyan military spokesman announced.

Kenyan military spokesman Col. David Obonyo said 21 al-Shabab militants and two Kenyan security personnel were killed when a Kenyan military convoy working under the African Union Mission in Somalia came under attack in Lower Juba Region.

He added that five other Kenyan security personnel also got injured in the incident.

He added that 19 AK-47 rifles, three rocket-propelled grenades and a pistol were also recovered from the slain suspects.

Separately, Kenyan soldiers ambushed and killed 13 suspected militants at an al-Shabab camp in Sarira, which is located in Somalia’s Ras Kiamboni area.

In January this year, several Kenyan soldiers were killed during an al-Shabab attack on their base in El Adde Somalia.
