Egyptian authorities announced late on Sunday that an agreement has been reached to resume international flight to and from Benina International Airport.

"The airport is preparing to receive some international flights after reaching an agreement with the protesters," airport director Ibrahim Ferkas told Anadolu Agency by phone.

He added that Libyan airlines were also preparing to fly international flights later tonight.

Ferkas said domestic flights, however, would remain suspended for now.

Benghazi's private and public sector employees went on strike Sunday to protest the deteriorating security condition in the restive city, grinding air traffic to a halt.

The labor strike came in response to civil disobedience calls by a number of political forces.

Libya has been suffering political and security instability since the overthrow of strongman Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
