Six Egyptian army troops were killed Sunday and a seventh was injured when their military plane crashed in the central province of Fayoum, the military said.
According to army spokesman Mohamed Samir, the plane crashed in Koum Aushim area in Fayoum during a training exercise due to a "technical malfunction."
The crash left six of the plane's crewmen dead and the seventh wounded, he said.
The Defense Ministry has commissioned a committee to investigate the crash, he added, giving no further details.
Earlier in the day, a security source told Anadolu Agency that a military chopper crashed in Fayoum with the victims having been taken to a military hospital.
