One of the armed groups in Mali's north, the Azawad movement (MNLA), on Thursday demanded the formation of an independent international committee to study "crimes" perpetrated by the Malian army in the regions controlled by them in north of Mali.

In a written statement released on Thursday, the MNLA said that the Malian army's crimes against the Azawad people since 1963 must be studied by the international committee.

Amnesty International recently announced that both the Malian army and armed groups in Mali violated human rights at various occasions.
