Secretary general of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said on Saturday that Somalia was expecting immediate assistance.
Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said Somalia was facing a big humanitarian tragedy, and mostly children were affected from it.
"The number of children below 5 who have died in Somalia in recent three months has reached 29,000," Ihsanoglu said as he met members of Saudi Arabian-Turkish Council and Turkish Consul General in Jeddah Salih Mutlu Sen over a fast-breaking dinner.
Ihsanoglu called on Muslims to extend emergency assistance to Somalia particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
Somalia is currently faced with one of the worst droughts in the past 60 years.
The epicenter of the drought lies on the three-way border shared by Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia, a nomadic region where families heavily depend on the health of their
livestock. Uganda and Djibouti have also been hit by the disaster.
Tens of thousands of people have so far been displaced due to the humanitarian situation in the region.
