Results show Mauritanian opposition leading in capital
Partial results of municipal elections in Mauritania show opposition parties leading in six out of nine provinces in the capital Nouakchott, political sources said on Sunday.

The opposition National Assembly for Reform and Development and the Popular Progressive Alliance are in the lead after 20 percent of the votes had been counted, the sources told Anadolu Agency.

The ruling Union for the Republic Party is only doing well in three provinces, they added.

A runoff will be organized among the candidates with the highest votes if none of the contenders manages to garner the 50 + 1 majority.

A source with Election Commission put the turnout of Saturday's vote at 60 percent of eligible voters.
