One Russian tourist was killed Sunday in an attack by armed gunmen in the coastal city of Mombasa.
"The tourists were accosted by three unknown gunmen when one was struggling with them
they shot her in the head," Tom Okoth, Mombasa county deputy police boss, told Anadolu Agency.
"She was pronounced dead," he said.
"We are currently in an emergency meeting at the central police station with the county commissioner and other officials regarding that (the attack on the tourists)," added Okoth.
Mombasa police assistant county commandant Selvano Kubai told reporters that three Russian tourists were attacked near Fort Jesus, a famous tourist hub and a museum which used to be a Portuguese fort built in 1591.
"As they were coming along the narrow streets of the old town of Mombasa, they were confronted by three young men," he said.
"One of them was armed with a pistol. They tried to rob those tourists from Russia, one fired three rounds in the air to scare them," added Kubai.
"One tourist tried to struggle with them that is the time when that lady was shot in the scalp," he said.
