Head doctor of Somalia's largest hospital keeps saving lives there under difficult conditions.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Yusuf Hasan, head doctor of the Medina Hospital in Mogadishu, operates on nearly 17 patients a day.

After working in several countries in Europe and Africa for 32 years, Hasan returned to Somalia in 2002 to help Somali people. During civil war in Somalia, Hasan saved many lives.

Today, Hasan is helping Somali people who have been suffering from famine.

Hasan said that 380 health personnel including 8 doctors and 191 nurses were working in Medina Hospital.

"When there is urgency, we stay in hospital and work round the clock. We operate on 6,000 patients a year," he said.
