A Somali policeman was killed and four civilians were injured Sunday in a drive-by shooting in the capital Mogadishu, eyewitnesses said.
According to the witnesses, militants in a car opened fire on a police vehicle in Wadajir district, western Mogadishu, leaving a policeman dead and four civilians wounded.
The attackers fled the scene following the attack, they added.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the second within hours in Wadajir. Earlier in the day, unknown assailants gunned down two female students in the same district while they were on their way to school.
"The assailants blocked the road and opened fire on the two girls, causing their instant death," one eyewitness told Anadolu Agency, noting that the attackers fled the scene right after the attack.
The police arrived in the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.
Reasons behind the attack are still unknown.
While the incident is the first of its kind this year, a similar attack took place last year when two girls were shot dead by unidentified gunmen.
Somalia has remained in the grip of on-again, off-again violence since the outbreak of civil war in 1991.
The country appeared to inch closer to stability after government troops and African Union forces – deployed in the country since 2007 – drove the Al-Shabaab group from most of its strongholds.Last Mod: 02 Kasım 2014, 11:16
