An event was held Wednesday in Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to celebrate the 58th anniversary of Sudan's independence.

Delegates of South Sudan's warring parties, including chief government negotiator Nhial Deng Nhial and opposition representative Gen Taban Deng Gai, and Ethiopian State Minister for Foreign Affairs Berhan attended the event.

Sudanese Ambassador to Ethiopia Abdu Elrahman Sirr El Khatim said the conflict in South Sudan affects the whole region in general and his country in particular.

"Sudan does not side with any of the conflicting parties in South Sudan," he said.

He added that Khartoum stands committed to giving full support to peace talks between the South Sudanese rivals under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD).

The diplomat went on to underline the need for regional support for the peace talks between the South Sudanese rivals.

South Sudan has been shaken by violence since mid-December, when President Salva Kiir accused his sacked vice president Riek Machar of standing behind a failed coup attempt against his regime.

Representatives of the two warring camps are currently holding direct talks in Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
