Three people were killed and two others injured on Sunday in clan clashes that took place in the southern Libyan city of Sabha, a medical source said.
The source, who requested anonymity, said Sabha's local hospital had received the bodies of the three dead victims and the two injured victims of the clashes that took place between Qadhadhfa and Awlad Suleiman tribes.
A military commander, meanwhile, said the clashes erupted when a member of Awlad Suleiman tribe was killed by Qadhadhfa, the tribe of Libya's late ruler Muammar Gaddafi.
"A number of militants from Awlad Suleiman wanted to retaliate, igniting the clashes," Mohamed al-Zaraz, an army commander in southern Libya, told Anadolu Agency.
He added that wise men on both sides were trying to broker a cessation of fighting between them.
Sabha's population is made up of several tribes.
Libya has been dogged by political instability since the 2011 ouster and death of longstanding ruler Muammar Gaddafi.Last Mod: 29 Eylül 2014, 09:49
