Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki on Thursday declared one day of national mourning for five soldiers killed in a militant attack in western Tunisia one day earlier.
The Tunisian presidency said in a statement that flags would be flown at half-mast during the mourning period.
Five soldiers were killed on Wednesday when their troop-transport vehicle came under attack in the western Kef province.
The attack took place less than three weeks before Tunisians elect a new president in polls slated for November 23.
Last week, the Tunisian Interior Ministry announced the arrest of 30 "terrorists" who had allegedly planned to attack state institutions and sabotage the upcoming election.
Within the last several months, Tunisia has witnessed a spate of attacks on police and army personnel.
