The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) called for restraint in Guinea and made public its concerns on the incidents taking place in Guinea on Tuesday.
The Turkish MFA stated on Tuesday that Turkey was concerned on the incidents in Guinea which began after the declaration of election date that is going to take place on June 30, 2013.
For a democratic transition period, the general elections is important for Guinea and Turkey follows the incidents with concern, the MFA said in its statement released on Tuesday.
Being one of the leading countries in the Guinea Gulf and West Africa, peace in Guinea is not only important for itself but also for the regional countries, the statement said.
In this context, we hope Guinea will pass the transition period in a way to benefit the country's progress and stability, the MFA noted.
"Turkey recommends all sides to act calmly. During this process, Turkey, politically and economically, will continue to give strong support to Guinea, with which our bilateral relations gained speed after mutual embassies went into service in 2013," the MFA underlined.
