In a sign of deepening relations, Turkey and Senegal on Friday signed an agreement for cooperation in the areas of water, forests, and meteorology.

Turkish Forestry and Water Affairs Minister Veysel Eroglu attended the signing ceremony in Senegal's capital Dakar.

Senegalese Foreign Minister Mankeur Ndiaye, together with Minister of Tourism and Air Transport Maimouna Ndoye Seck and Environment Minister Abdoulaye Bibi Balde, were present at the ceremony.

The agreement includes forest management and planning, fighting erosion, establishing weather observation centers, and protecting water resources, said Ndiaye.

"These deals are signs of the high-level relations and trust between our two countries," he said.

For his part, Eroglu touted "the developing cooperation between our fellow countries following Turkey's announcement of its Africa outreach initiative in 2005."

In recent years, relations between Senegal and Turkey have picked up steam. The two parties declared their willingness to strengthen bilateral relations in all areas at every occasion.

In January, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Senegal as part of a sub-Saharan Africa tour.
